GET INVOLVED!

Viva Palestina USA is on the move...organizing our second convoy of people and vehicles in 2009! The convoy of hundreds of Viva volunteers and vehicles from the US, UK and dozens of other countries promises to garner the attention of the entire world as we make our way on December 6 from London through France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Egypt to deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged people of Gaza! Our estimated date of arrival at the Rafah border is December 27th, one year to the day that the horrendous attack on Gaza began.

Viva Palestina maintains a three-part goal, which was applauded during our July convoy, to:

1. Distribute necessary medical aid to the Palestinian people
2. Highlight the inhumanity of the continued siege of this devastated area
3. Amplify the shift in public policy and growing solidarity of people around the world towards greater support of the Palestinian struggle

VOLUNTEER TO SET UP AN EVENT IN YOUR AREA!

You can organize fundraising events in your area to help promote the convoy and to educate others about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Many Viva and past convoy volunteers will be speaking in cities across the US in October and November and we might be visiting yours! These fantastic volunteers are eager to share their experiences! Contact Viva Palestina (usinformation@vivapalestina.org) to set up a powerful eyewitness report or panel discussion in your community.

We will be purchasing medical supplies along the route and additional vehicles as donations allow. You can also donate medical supplies and materials and arrange to have them taken or shipped to London or Istanbul. Additionally, your donation of camping materials for use by volunteers traveling on the route is appreciated.

Use your contacts list, student groups, community organizations, listservs and network of friends and family to help tell others about the Viva Palestina convoy! We are an entirely grassroots project, seeking to unify individuals and organizations with an active interest in providing dire humanitarian support to the Palestinian people who have suffered under occupation, siege and bloodshed. Your help in dispersing information about our efforts is as important and appreciated as your time and donations.

With the Gaza infrastructure still devastated, the entry of materials suffocated by the enduring siege, and many basic needs of every aspect of society unmet, we are unwavering in our determination to provide medical and humanitarian aid to the people who immediately won our hearts with their kindness and strength. When our first US convoy entered Gaza in mid-July, our volunteers were told repeatedly that everyone had been eagerly anticipating the convoy's arrival and that what meant the most to the Palestinian people was our presence...our standing shoulder to shoulder with them in solidarity. The brief experience was so powerful, so overwhelming and the response from the Palestinians and from our volunteers so positive that, with your help, we are confident this next effort will be an endeavor of even greater impact!
